John Talfer (Director)

 

John Telfer trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School after a degree in Music and Theatre at the University of York. He has appeared in more than 35 plays with the Bristol Old Vic company, and other theatre work includes tours with Cambridge, New Vic and Royal National Theatre companies. His television credits include parts in The Bill and Casualty and he spent 5 years in the BBC Television drama, Bergerac, playing John Nettles’ side-kick, Willie Pettit.

 

He also has considerable radio experience and joined the cast of The Archers in 2003 as the vicar, the Rev Alan Franks.

 

He has recently played Johnny Cradock in 'Fanny and Johnny Cradock cook the great American song book' -a new piece of supper theatre from Show Of Strength theatre company and Philip Larkin in Sue Wilson's Larkin' About with fellow Archer, Sunny Ormonde. He is a regular audiobook voice, and works as a narrator for The Bristol Ensemble and Brodsky String Quartet.

 

 Apart from his acting commitments, John also works as a musician. He composes for stage, television and radio. His and Alec Reid's musical Muscles! was performed on the London fringe, and he often writes for Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory. He sang and played with rock band AFGM for 11 years and has been Musical Director for the BOV Theatre School’s Christmas productions at the Redgrave Theatre for several years.

 

or the past six years he has directed productions for the Bristol Gilbert & Sullivan Operatic Society and he was the director for Eric Wetherell’s first opera in 2010, A Foreign Field.
